World Winter Sports (Beijing) Expo 2017 Promotions Held in Finland
The year 2017 marks the 100th anniversary of the independence of Finland. From March 2 to 6, International Data Group (IDG) held special events in Finland to promote World Winter Sports (Beijing) Expo 2017 (WWSE 2017).
Finland is a winter sports power and especially a world leader in ice hockey. The country has a large population of practitioners of biathlon, cross-country skiing and ski jumping. And there are a large number of high quality bases of sports training. During the four-day visit, the IDG team met with representatives of many winter sports organizations including Mr. Risto Nieminen, IOC member and President of the Finnish Olympic Committee; Mr. Kai Mykkänen, the Finnish Minister for Trade and Development; Arto Ojala, President of World Snow and Ice Forum; Teppo Rantanen, Executive Director of City of Tampere; Mr. Jyrki Myllyvirta, Mayor of City of Lahti; Mr. Tommi Lanki, Director of Sports Services of City of Lahti; Jürg Capol, Marketing Director of International Ski Federation (FIS); and Ms. Sanna Kervinen, President of Parliament of City of Tuusula, as well as representatives from enterprises like SRV, VR GROUP, ICE PRO and REIMA, etc. They discussed about the development of WWSE and global trends of the winter sports economy and exchanged industrial experiences in construction, management and operation. The team also attended activities including a summit titled Winter Sports Economic Development in Emerging Markets and seminars on Nordic skiing and related competitions. Also, the team visited the Finnish Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment, watched FIS Nordic World Ski Championships 2017 in Lahti, paid a visit to Honka, the largest log house company in Finland, and took part in a seminar in the theme of Architecture and Design.
At the World Snow & Ice Forum, Mr. Zhu Dongfang, Vice President of IDG China, delivered a keynote speech, explaining China Winter Sports Industry Report, elaborating on four key words of development trends, market environment, consumption upgrading and winter sports opportunities. He also introduced WWSE 2017 and invited cooperation in the winter sports industry from Finnish peers and sports amateurs in the rest of the world. The forum saw detailed discussion on Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics, China’s winter sports strategies, urban planning, the development and sustainability of Nordic winter sports, the construction of sports venues, global problems and challenges in winter sports industry, and the development and management of winter sports tourism projects.
With WWSE 2017 to be held in September, the IDG team will employ Finnish strengths and opportunities in the winter sports industry to improve the comprehensiveness of WWSE 2017 and attract more people to learn about and participate in winter sports.
WWSE 2017 will take place from September 7 to 10, 2017. During the phase of preparation, IDG will apply the experiences learned during this visit to comprehensively improve the development level and depth of the winter sports industry, conduct targeted introduction of professional international organizations and brand enterprises, promote the construction, management and operation of the winter sports industry, and invite industrial organizations and domestic and international amateurs to participate in WWSE 2017.
